Bhenda Sagle / Lady's Finger Masala / Konkani Recipes.


Lady's Finger also known as Okra is called Bhenda in Konkani. Bhenda Sagle is a Konkani dish. A traditional and very popular recipe of Mangalore region GSB Konkani community.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Bhenda Sagle / Lady's Finger Masala.

Ingredients:-

Lady's finger. - 10 (tender)
Salt.               - to taste
Coconut oil.    -1/2tsp




For grinding the Coconut Masala Paste:-

Grated Coconut.   -1cup
Red chillies.          - 5
Coriander seeds.  -1tbsp
Fenugreek seeds. -1/4tsp
Tamarind.              - a Gooseberry size



For Seasoning:-

Coconut oil.      -1tsp
Mustard seeds. -1tsp
Curry leaves.     -1spring



Instructions:-

1. Wash the Lady's finger, trim both the ends and chop into 1/2 inch lengthy pieces and keep aside.

2. Heat little oil in a pan and roast the Red chillies and remove to a plate.Roast the Coriander seeds and Fenugreek seeds (Methiseeds) in oil and keep aside to cool.


3. Grind the roasted Red chillies, Coriander seeds and Fenugreek seeds along with grated Coconut and Tamarind to a little coarse paste adding very little water and keep aside.


Method:-

1. Heat little oil in a pan and add the chopped Lady's finger and roast for a minute on low flame.

2. Add the ground Coconut Masala paste and required Salt into the pan.

3. Add little Water to cook the chopped Lady's finger and mix well.

4. Boil and cook the ground Masala and the Lady's finger on low flame till the water evaporates.The consistency of the dish is medium thick. Switch off the flame.

5. Heat 1tsp Coconut oil in a pan for seasoning.Splutter Mustard seeds and add Curry leaves.Saute well and switch off the flame.

6. Pour the above seasoning into the Lady's Finger Masala / Bhenda Sagle in the pan.

7. A very tasty and delicious Bhenda Sagle / Lady's Finger Masala is ready to serve as a side dish with Rice, Dosa, Idli etc.
