Bottle Gourd Gravy / Lauki Gravy


Bottle gourd also known as Lauki is a vegetable rich in Vitamins. Bottle gourd gravy / Lauki gravy is a very simple, tasty and delicious dish made with Bottle gourd and cooked with Onion, Tomato and other spicy Masala powders.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Bottle Gourd Gravy  / Lauki Gravy.

Ingredients:-

Bottle gourd.                 - a medium size.
Onion.                           -2 medium size
Tomato.                         -2 medium size.
Coriander powder.         -2tsp
Red chilly powder.        -1tsp

Turmeric powder.          -1/4 tsp
Garam masala powder.  -1/2tsp
Salt.                                - to taste
Cooking oil.                    -2tsp     

Cumin seeds.                  -1tsp
Coriander leaves.            -few chopped [optional]

Instructions:-


1. Take a medium size Bottle gourd.

2. Wash and peel the outer skin of the Bottle gourd.

3. Chop the Bottle gourd into round pieces and again chop into small pieces and keep aside.

4. Peel and finely chop Onion and keep aside.

5. Wash and finely chop Tomatoes and keep aside.


Method:-

1. Heat Oil in a  pan on medium flame and splutter Cumin seeds and saute well.

2. Add finely chopped Onion and saute well till the Onion becomes translucent and turns light brown.

3. Add finely chopped Tomatoes and saute well till the Tomato pieces becomes soft.

4. Lower the flame and add Red chilly powder, Coriander powder,Turmeric powder and Garam masala powder and mix well.

5. Add required Salt and mix with the cooked Onion, Tomato and the spice powders in the pan.Saute well and cook for 2 minutes on low flame.

6. Add the chopped Bottle gourd pieces and mix well.

7. Add little water and mix well.Boil and cook the Bottle gourd.

8. Cover the pan with a lid and cook the Bottle gourd pieces till soft on low flame and switch off the flame.

9. Lastly add few chopped Coriander leaves.[optional]

10. Transfer the Bottle gourd gravy to a serving bowl.

11. A very tasty and delicious Bottle gourd gravy is ready to serve hot.
