Potato Moong dal Spicy Curry is a very tasty and delicious side dish made with Potato, split yellow Moong dal, Onion, grated Coconut,Tamarind, Red chillies and other spices and goes well with Rice, Chapathi, Phulkas etc.
The following ingredients are needed to prepare Potato Moong Dal Spicy Curry.
Ingredients:-
Potato. -2 medium size
Split yellow Moong dal.-1 cup
Salt. - to taste
For grinding the Masala paste:-
Grated Coconut. -1/2 cup
Kashmiri dry Red chillies. -2 boiled
Roasted Red chillies. - 4
Coriander seeds. -1tbsp
Fenugreek seeds (Methi). - 10 seeds only
Tamarind. - a marble size
For Seasoning:-
Coconut oil. -1tsp
Onion. -1 medium size
Instructions:-
Peel, wash and chop the Potatoes into small pieces and keep aside.
Wash and pressure cook split yellow Moong dal along with chopped Potato pieces adding 1cup of water for 3 whistles and keep aside.
Heat a pan and dry roast Coriander seeds and Fenugreek seeds. Keep aside. In the same pan add 1/2tsp oil and roast 4 dry Red chillies and keep aside.
In a vessel boil 2 Kashmiri dry Red chillies adding little water till soft and keep aside.
Grind the grated Coconut along with roasted Coriander seeds, Fenugreek seeds, 4 roasted Red chillies, 2 boiled Kashmiri Red chillies and Tamarind to a smooth paste adding very little water and keep aside the ground masala paste.
Peel and finely chop Onion and keep aside.
Method:-
1. Heat Coconut oil in a pan and add finey chopped Onion.
2. Add little Salt and saute well till the Onion becomes translucent.
3. Add the cooked Potato pieces and cooked split yellow Moong dal into the pan.
4. Mix the Potato and Moong dal with the Onion pieces and boil on low flame.
5. Add ground masala paste into the pan .
6. Add required Salt and 1cup of water and mix well.
7. Boil and cook for 5 minutes on low flame and stir in between.
8. When the gravy becomes semi thick, stir well and switch of the flame.
9.Transfer the curry to a serving bowl.
10. A very tasty and delicious Potato Moong dal Spicy Curry is ready to serve hot with Rice, Chapathi, Phulkas etc.
