Ulli Chammanthi / Shallots Chutney / Piyyava Chutney.


Shallot is called Piyyavu in Konkani and Ulli in Malayalam. Shallots Chutney/ Ulli Chammanthi / Piyyava Chutney is a very tasty and spicy chutney made with raw Shallots, Kashmiri Red chillies and Tamarind. Shallots chutney can be served as a side dish for Dosa, Neer dosa, Idli, boiled Tapioca or Appam.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Ulli Chammanthi / Shallots Chutney/ Piyyava Chutney.

Ingredients:-

Shallots .                           - 8 peeled
Kashmiri dry Red chillies. - 5
Tamarind.                          - a marble size.
Salt.                                   - to taste
Coconut oil.                       -1tsp



Instructions:-

Peel and wash the Shallots and keep aside.

Remove the seeds and boil dry Kashmiri Red chillies in little Water for 5 minutes and keep aside.



Method:-

Grind the boiled and deseeded Kashmiri Red Chillies along with peeled raw Shallots, a marble size Tamarind and little Salt to a little coarse paste.Add 2tbsp water while grinding the chutney.

Transfer the ground Chutney to a serving bowl.

Add 1tsp Coconut oil over the chutney just before serving and mix well.

A tasty Shallots chutney / Ulli Chammanthi / Piyyava Chutney is ready to serve as a side dish for Dosa, Idli, Neer dosa, boiled Tapioca, Appam etc.
