Vaisambal (Lablab Beans) Chana dal Stir Fry / Konkani Recipe


Lablab beans or Hyacinth beans is called Vaisambal in Konkani.Vaisambal chana dal stir fry is a coconut based  Konkani recipe made using tender Lablab beans and Chana dal (split Chickpeas).Flat shape green tender pods of Lablab beans or Hyacinth beans are cooked along with split chickpeas and goes well as a side dish with rice.A detailed recipe and step by step method of the healthy and tasty stir fry with photos are given in this recipe.

The following ingredients are needed to prepare Vaisambal / Lablab Beans Chana dal Stir Fry.

Ingredients:-

Vaisambal.          -15 or 20 (tender pods of Lablab beans)
Chana dal.          -1cup (split Chickpeas)
Green chillies.    - 4
Grated Coconut. -1 cup
Urad dal.             -1tsp
Mustard seeds.    -1/2tsp
Salt.                     - to taste

Instructions:-

1. Take 15 or 20 tender Vaisambal / Lablab beans and wash well a couple of times in water.

2. Remove both the ends of the tender Lablab beans and chop into very thin pieces and keep aside.

3. Wash and pressure cook Chana dal / split Chickpeas adding 1/2 cup of water for 2 whistles and keep aside.

Method:-

1. Heat Coconut oil in a wide Kadai and add Urad dal and saute well. Splutter Mustard seeds and saute well. Add half slit Green chillies and fry in oil for a second. Add required Salt and mix well.

2. Add cooked Chana dal into the kadai and mix well.

3. Add thinly chopped  Vaisambal / Lablab beans into the kadai.

4. Mix the chopped Lablab beans with the cooked Chana dal.Cover and cook on low flame till the Lablab beans become soft.

5. Add grated Coconut into the kadai.

6. Mix the grated Coconut with the cooked Vaisambal [Lablab beans]. Saute well and cook for a minute on low flame and switch off the flame.

7. Transfer the Vaisambal [Lablab beans] stir fry to a serving bowl.

8. A very tasty and delicious Vaisambal [Lablab beans] Chana dal Stir Fry is ready to serve as a side dish with rice.
